Dr. Ryan D. Sochol is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering within the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. Prof. Sochol’s Bioinspired Advanced Manufacturing (BAM) Laboratory pioneers micro/nanoscale additive manufacturing or “3D Printing” strategies to solve mechanically and physically complex challenges, with an emphasis on biomedical applications. Prof. Sochol is also an affiliate faculty of the Fischell Department of Bioengineering, a core member of the Robert E. Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices, and a member of the Maryland Robotics Center. In addition, Prof. Sochol currently serves as Co-President of the “Mid-Atlantic Micro/Nano Alliance (MAMNA)” – a non-profit organization that supports the industrial, academic, and governmental research community surrounding the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area.
Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Maryland, College Park, Dr. Sochol served two primary academic roles: (i) as an NIH Fellow within the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences & Technology, Harvard Medical School, and Brigham & Women’s Hospital, and (ii) as the Founder and Director of the Micro Mechanical Methods for Biology (M3B) Laboratory Program within the Berkeley Sensor & Actuator Center at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Sochol received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University in 2006, and both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley, in 2009 and 2011, respectively, with Doctoral Minors in Bioengineering and Public Health. Dr. Sochol also served as a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Tokyo. Prof. Sochol received the NSF CAREER Award in 2020. In addition to his research, Prof. Sochol established and currently teaches the dual undergraduate-graduate course, “Additive Manufacturing”.
Prof. Zeev Rosenzweig is the Chair of the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He brings years of experience of developing new techniques for the synthesis of nanoparticles and utilizes them in a wide range of applications as biomedical imaging, biosensors, and photovoltaics. In the last 10 years professor Rosenzweig is also studying the synthesis of semiconductor nanomaterials and their level of toxicity to living cells and embryos.
Prof. Zeev Rosenzweig obtained his BSc in Chemistry and PhD Degree in Physical Chemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel.
During his postdoctoral research at Iowa State University and at the University of Michigan he gained experience in the areas of analytical laser spectroscopy and nanoscale optochemical sensors. In 1999, after developing a research program in the area of nanomaterials chemistry. at the Department of Chemistry at the University of New Orleans, Prof. Rosenzweig obtained an NSF CAREER award to develop nanometric luminescent probes for biological assays and cellular studies.
In 2005, at the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Prof. Rosenzweig joined the National Science Foundation (NSF) and served as Program Director in the NSF Chemistry Division between 2005 and 2013. During his NSF service, he continued to publish scientific articles in the field of luminescent nanomaterials.
In 2014, Prof. Rosenzweig joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Maryland Baltimore County as Department Chair, where he is building a new research program in the area of nanomaterials chemistry with particular emphasis on nanomaterials safety and sustainability.
Charles Montague, PhD in Biophysics from John Hopkins University. Early in his career worked in the analytical instrument industry. He has been working with startup companies for over 12 years at the State of Maryland and at John Hopkins University. Dr. Montaque supported bioscience companies of all sizes across the state. Currently, he serves as the Director of Business Development at the Department of Biomedical Engineer at John Hopkins University. For 5 years Dr. Montague managed the JHU-Coulter Translational Partnership, a funding program that assists with translation and commercialization, in addition to providing funds.
Dr. Montague provides commercialization support and guidance on strategic marketing and business development for SeeTrue Technology, LLC.
Venture Capital Strategic Advisor
Dan Kunitz is a media and technology executive, entrepreneur, and investor who has been involved in the creation and management of several successful web and media start-ups. Dan serves as the UMD Venture Strategy and Development Director. He’s also the DC I-Corps Node Executive Director and serves as NSF I-Corps Instructor. Dan is a partner at NextGen Venture Partners and is an active angel investor.
As the Executive Director of the DC I-Corps Node Dan advises and provides support to all early stage technology companies in the I-Corps programs run by University of Maryland, George Washington University, Virginia Tech University, and John Hopkins University. Dan served as Chairman of AccelerateDC program, where he manages a mentor network of technology start-up founders and executives, and he was as a Senior Advisor at Venture Well to NSF’s National Innovation Network. Dan has championed, instructed, and/or managed many international I-Corps and lean startup initiatives in developed and developing countries all around the world.
Prior to joining the DC I-Corps team, Dan was an entrepreneur, founder, and executive for several startups in the web, new media, and education sectors. As Co-Founder and COO of Irides, LLC, a Virginia-based managed services provider, Dan oversaw all aspects of the company’s strategy and operations, and negotiated six acquisitions. Dan was on the founding team of Politico, a Virginia-based new media venture covering politics, Capitol Hill, and lobbying. As Associate Publisher and Managing Editor of politico.com, Dan was responsible for all aspects of the online strategy, built and managed a team of developers, designers, and content producers, and negotiated numerous strategic partnerships. Politico grew to over 100 employees and had 5 million monthly unique visitors in its first year. Dan was involved in two other new media start-ups in the Washington region: Local Point TV, an innovative short-form entertainment-based digital spectrum sub-channel, and NewsIT, a mobile platform for crowd-sourced news. Dan’s career also includes two education ventures. At MBA Center, Dan directed all aspects of the company’s communication, marketing, media, and editorial activities for Europe’s largest test prep provider with 12 locations throughout Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Dan subsequently co-founded Professional Prime, a strategic advisory and consulting company headquartered in Paris and London, with offices throughout Europe and education clients worldwide.
Dan has a BA from Wesleyan University, and an MBA in International Business from Ecole des Ponts.

Ms. Elma Levy is the Co-founder and Chair of the Board of Dovel Technologies; under her tenure and guidance the company evolved from a 2-person at home start-up to its current size of $200M and 1300 FTEs. Ms. Levy established the corporate foundation and culture that enabled the company to develop from a start-up to a mature organization. She had the vision to implement a strategy of growth through acquisition at the right time in the corporate life cycle and executed the steps to realize that vision.
In her current position as Chair of the Board, Ms. Levy oversees and guides the organizational governance and strategic direction.
Ms. Levy is a highly sought-after speaker and panelist, business mentor and leadership coach. She serves as mentor to University students as well as to entrepreneurs. In addition to her Board position at Dovel, Ms. Levy serves on multiple Advisory Boards, and she is the Vice -Chair of the Board of the largest non-profit hospice organization in Montgomery County.
She came to the US in 1982 from The Netherlands; she holds an undergraduate degree from George Mason University and a graduate degree from Marymount University.
